Description

[SHAH ALAM – 18 November 2020] Universiti Teknologi MARA (“UiTM”) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (“Huawei Malaysia”) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) virtually to collaborate on developing Smart Campus solutions, a Smart Data Centre as well as other ICT Infrastructure solutions within UiTM.

The virtual MoU was signed by UiTM Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Emeritus Professor Datuk Ir. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim, with the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Industry, Community and Alumni Network, YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Rahmat Mohamad acting as witness for the university. On Huawei Malaysia’s side, Mr David Li, Vice President of Huawei Enterprise Malaysia, signed the agreement, while Mr Li Shan, Head of Public Sector, Huawei Enterprise Malaysia, acted as witness.

The MoU will see each organisation tapping on their respective expertise and strengths, to achieve the following objectives:

Leveraging Huawei’s Smart Campus technology to develop an intelligent campus which will consist of cutting-edge digital infrastructure and cybersecurity solutions, utilised through smart classrooms and virtual desktop infrastructure. Explore initiatives to create a Smart Data Centre and ICT Infrastructure Solutions via workshops and technical discussions, using Huawei’s technological and technical expertise, which will then be implemented through digital solutions in UiTM’s campuses nationwide. Uphold Huawei and UITM’s commitment to develop local ICT talents through the Huawei ICT Academy via training to raise more ICT talents within UiTM, with the added value of holding Huawei certifications.

Commenting on the collaboration, Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Azraai Kassim said, “The UiTM-Huawei collaboration marks a milestone for UiTM. The Smart Campus initiative would make it possible for UiTM campuses throughout the whole nation to be equipped and ready for the future”

Professor Dato’ Dr. Rahmat Mohamad agreed, adding that Huawei’s presence in UiTM would be a “magnet” for other reputable companies to come on board and hopefully raise academia-industry collaborations to another level.

Mr David Li said that the collaboration will put Huawei at the forefront of Smart Campus technology. “It will bring us closer to our goal -- that is to help empower universities and communities with the right innovative technologies,” he added.

“With Huawei's innovative technologies and experience, we ensure that the smart campus solutions we offer effectively match the evolving needs of higher education institutions and enterprises, which in turns promotes the development of Malaysia's ICT talent,” he said, adding that as one of Malaysia’s largest universities, UiTM can be a hub for the development of innovative solutions and local talents to drive digital transformation in Malaysia.
