Closing Ceremony Of The Modern Language Olympiad 2.0
Title
Closing Ceremony Of The Modern Language Olympiad 2.0
Description
Shah Alam, November 10, 2023 - The Closing Ceremony of the Modern Language Olympiad 2.0 was held at the Platinum Hall, Melati Residence College, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). In my closing speech, I expressed my gratitude to Allah SWT for granting the opportunity to gather for this momentous occasion.
I extended my warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the Honorable Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, Exco of Selangor State Islamic Religion and Innovation Culture, for gracing the event with his presence. I also welcomed the distinguished guests, lecturers, local and foreign participants, as well as the audience, for their attendance.
Expressing my appreciation, I acknowledged the commitment and efforts of all those involved in making the event a success, especially the Academy of Language Studies and the UiTM Student Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, for their hard work in organizing the program, which lasted for four days starting from November 7, 2023.
The Modern Language Olympiad, an international-level competition program, had seen significant growth since its inception in 2019. I commended the program's inclusivity, as it saw participation from various educational institutions apart from UiTM branches. Furthermore, neighboring countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines also participated.
The program encompassed three languages – Malay, English, and Arabic – and was aimed at facilitating the internationalization and promotion of culture between Malaysia and other countries, aligning with UiTM's vision of becoming a globally renowned university.
If you recall the history of Islamic civilization from pre-Abbasiah until now, great Islamic scholars such as Ibn Qatadah, Al Ghazali, Ibn Hazm, and Abu Hayyan mastered 4 languages (Hebrew, Syriac, Aramaic, Ethiopian Amharic), Sultan Muhammad Al-Fateh mastered 6 languages (Turkish, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian and Latin). Meanwhile, in the heyday of the Malacca Sultanate, which was famous as a trading city, a cosmopolitan city inhabited by various cultures and races, it is believed that there were 80 languages spoken at that time.
Malaysia today according to the CIA World Factbook (updated on November 6, 2023) has 134 living languages that are still in use, consisting of 112 indigenous languages and 22 non-indigenous languages. This shows that the Muslim and Malay community in its heyday had mastered various spoken languages.
Thus, I would like to emphasize the benefits of the program in honing leadership qualities and communication skills among participants of different levels as well as noting the importance of promoting cooperation, voluntarism, and fostering relationships among the students.
I was confidence that the program not only provided participants with a platform to showcase their talents, abilities, and creativity but also offered them the opportunity to achieve success that would serve as a driving force for the next generation.
In conclusion, I hope for the continuity of such programs, fostering lasting friendships and valuable experiences. I also extended my gratitude to the committee members, UiTM alumni, Melati Residence College, non-governmental organizations, internal associations and clubs, as well as all the parties involved directly and indirectly in launching the program. I wish all continued grace and blessings from above.

MAJLIS PENUTUP OLIMPIAD BAHASA MODEN 2.0
Jika diimbau sejarah ketamadunan Islam bermula pra Abbasiah sehingga kini, para sarjana besar Islam seperti Ibn Qatadah, Al Ghazali, Ibn Hazm, dan Abu Hayyan menguasai 4 bahasa (Ibrani, Suryani, Aramaic, Amhar Ethiopia), Sultan Muhammad Al-Fateh menguasai 6 bahasa (bahasa Turki, Greek, Hebrew, Arab, Parsi dan Latin).
