Title

TENGKU PERMAISURI SELANGOR OFFICIATED "A VOYAGE OF MOMENTS"

Description

"A Voyage of Moments" is a compilation of moments from a 15-year journey through the eyes of Wan Jamila Wan Shiaful Bahri a.k.a ArtJamila. The exhibition, on display at the UiTM Creative Media and Technology Hub, covers the artist's earliest to most recent collections, conveying messages through visual narratives in Jamila's artistic signature of doodles and naïve art. In this way, she creates a world from her perspective in surrealist approaches.
The exhibition, jointly organized by Galeri Shah Alam and UiTM's Creative Media and Technology Hub, was officiated by DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor.
UiTM is honoured to be part of this social support by providing an exhibition venue for the remarkably skilled, self-taught artist ArtJamila. Wan Jamila, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of four, had difficulties with verbal communication and social interaction. Her mother, Noorhashimah Mohamed Noordin, a former lecturer who retired from UiTM, has always been her best mentor and companion on her journey to become an award-winning artist.
UiTM is a caring institution committed to the advancement of people with special needs. Various programmes have been implemented by UiTM, especially through the National Autism Resource Centre (NARC), the OKU (Persons with Disabilities) Services Unit or UPO and the Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK).
With this in mind, I would like to thank all those who made this exhibition a success. It is hoped that the platform provided here can highlight the creative talents of people with special needs.
